The State of Racial Disparities in Charleston County, South Carolina 2000-2015 is a report written by Dr. Stacey Patton in conjunction with the Race and Social Justice Initiative at the College of Charleston. This resource collates and analyzes data from multiple government and organizational sources on the reality of the social and economic conditions which disproportionately impact Charleston County’s Black population. The findings provide the first step in beginning an open and relevant conversation on exactly where these disparities exist in our community and how best to address them. Dr. Patricia Williams Lessane and Dr. John White, coprincipals of the Race and Social Justice Initiative, presented a series of policy recommendations based upon the report’s findings.
