Young Contemporaries 2021 | Writing Activity

Mon Apr 05, 2021

We asked our spring 2021 intern Emma to complete one of the activities in the Writing Prompts for Visual Art packet we created to guide museum goers of all ages to engage more deeply with works of visual art. Emma chose to create a tongue twister using the Best in Printmaking artwork in Young Contemporaries 2021. You can see this activity and all the other writing prompts by clicking here.

As you can see in Emma’s example below, creating a tongue twister is a fun way to not only slow down and consider a work of art more closely. Emma chose the letter C to create a tongue twister about Victoria Trakas, Untitled, 2021, etching, which won Best in Printmaking.

Tongue Twister instructions:
Pick a letter.
Using the work as inspiration, name two adjectives, three verbs, two adverbs, three nouns, and one plural noun.
Use these as a word bank for creating a tongue twister!

Several crooked, coils cover a cramped, crowed space.

Slowly slithering, the clever coils crawl carefully.

Continuing to change, creep, and command.
