Caw Caw Interpretive Center
Join fellow Halsey Institute members and friends to as we go off-site to dive into local histories of land explored in La Vaughn Belle: When the Land Meets the Body. We’ll meet at Caw Caw Interpretive Center to learn about the former rice fields and walk through the various steps required for the cultivation of rice using reproduction artifacts. Examine the roles and influences of enslaved Africans and African Americans on the process, and discuss events associated with the Stono Slave Rebellion that occurred in part at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. A portion of new video work made by Belle for this exhibition was filmed at Caw Caw.
Program Time and Length: Meet at Caw Caw for a tour beginning at 10:00 AM. The program is 75 minutes long and will take place outdoors on uneven terrain.
