The community and College of Charleston students are invited to join the Halsey Institute staff and the Studio Art Department for a lecture by artist and juror for Young Contemporaries 2025 Allen Frame on Wednesday, January 22 at 6:00 PM in Simons Center, Room 380. This event is free and open to the public.

Now in its 40th year, the Halsey Institute and the College of Charleston Studio Art Department are proud to present Young Contemporaries 2025. The annual exhibition is a celebration of talented artists at the College of Charleston. With works selected by a nationally renowned juror, the exhibition reflects the strength and diversity of practice in the School of the Arts’ rigorous programs. Featuring a wide range of media, including paintings, sculpture, photography, and prints, the exhibition showcases the efforts of the student body at the College.

Allen Frame is a photographer and writer, represented by Gitterman Gallery in New York where he has had solo exhibitions of photography in 2005, 2009, and 2013.  He is a winner of the 2017/2018  Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome. His 2013 exhibition Dialogue with Bolaño was presented at the Museum of Art of the Sonora in Hermosillo, Mexico, in 2014. Detour, a compilation of his photographs over a decade, was published by Kehrer Verlag Heidelberg in 2001. 

Frame is an Adjunct Professor of Photography at Pratt Institute (MFA) and also teaches at the School of Visual Arts (BFA), and the International Center of Photography in New York. He has taught workshops in photography extensively in Mexico. He graduated from Harvard University and grew up in Mississippi.

The College of Charleston Department of Studio Art invites you to AMALFI, a solo show of works by Allen Frame on view in the new Simons Center Studio Art Gallery from January 22 – February 26, 2025.
