I graduated from the College of Charleston in 1998. I obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art with an emphasis in painting and printmaking. Since that time, I have been an art teacher in the public school system. I worked for the State of South Carolina for five years in Hampton County, South Carolina teaching K-12th grade students visual arts. In addition to this, I completed a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education in 2003 from the College of Charleston. In 2003 my husband and I relocated to Beaufort, South Carolina where I currently I work for the Department of Defense as a visual arts teacher on a military installation.
I consider myself to be a figurative painter. My work focuses on the human condition and relationships between people. I am always trying to define human emotions in my paintings and a lot of my images are self-portraits in many ways. I am inspired by people and events that take place in my own life and I draw from that when I am working. Situations like isolation, anxiety, separation, sadness, and confusion are often themes in my work. I also like to observe people in common situations and find uncommon circumstances in their actions. Humans are very intriguing and I am never bored when it comes to the interpretation their actions in my paintings. Through the use of different materials, I try to build up deep and complicated surfaces and compositions that leave the viewer wondering and questioning what my images and figures are about.
