My images in the exhibition are created using Polaroid film. As I began transferring the film images to paper I became aware of other possible manipulations. At first the images were colored using pencils, graphite, and watercolors. Later more surface transformations were done using a brushed-on coating of bee’s wax. I made another discovery when I realized the “throw away” portion of the film could be collaged to create a new image. The possibilities of this process seem to be endless.
My recent body of work is layered. The base is a transfer or manipulation. On this base I created a “quilt like image” by free-hand machine stitching on fabrics such a silk, lace and tulle. Pockets are formed that reveal hints of the piece’s meaning.
My work is an exploration through many media. I want the viewer to question the process. As I continue to study, my work continues to evolve.
