We enjoy healthy support from the College of Charleston, and greatly needed financial assistance from the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation. Recently, we received a major program support grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, along with project grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Asian Cultural Council, Harpo Foundation, Joanna Foundation, Coastal Community Foundation, The Henry and Sylvia Yaschik Foundation and the National Lunar Science Institute. Our programming has been exceptionally well received, and we have developed many new strategic partnerships.

While we are delighted by the continued support that we have received from various foundations and grants, we cannot possibly sustain our dynamic programming without the encouragement and support of our Members and Community Partners-those who keep the mighty Halsey afloat.

Your participation in this program is vital to the stability and growth of the Halsey Institute. We hope you will join us by becoming a Halsey Community Partner. After all, our Members and Community Partners are the lifeblood of our daily operations.

Robert Lange Studios is a gallery space run by artist and gallery owners Megan and Robert Lange. As such, it is dedicated to the development of an on-going dialogue between artists from a range of artistic disciplines at differing levels of their careers. The RLS Residency program invites international and national artists to live in a residency space situated within the gallery. Located at 2 Queen Street in the heart of historic Charleston, SC we provide a platform for experimentation that gives exposure to diverse and dynamic art practices developing locally, regionally, and around the world. Working with the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art by housing visiting artists who are creating exhibits for the Halsey Gallery we aim to facilitate creative networks and connect the local art community with the global sphere of contemporary art. Visiting artists have had an amazing and inspiring experience while staying inside the 6000 sq-foot art gallery housed in one of the oldest buildings in Charleston.  The historically marked building from 1670 has creativity that can be felt in the walls, and the gallery has been featured in American Art Collector, National Geographic Traveler, the Huffington Post, on MSNBC, and voted the best Gallery in Charleston 2010-2013.

Lunch and Recess is a straight up creative house, not an agency, which has more talent than overhead. They specialize in creating visual content. This content can have many different uses: from traditional TV spots, short documentaries, brand films, to messages developed especially for the world-wild-internet-webs. They work really well with advertising agencies, public relations firms and direct clients, just like you.

L + R does not charge inflated prices to cover corporate office views, valet parking or baristas in the lobby. In fact, they fetch their own coffee and sometimes ride other people’s bicycles to work. If they operated on anything less they would be working in a van outside of your office or down by the river.

Rick Rhodes has a passion for what he does. Photography can always get you into places most people could never dream of going. Just bring your camera and it’s a free pass to the world. Whether soaring at 1500 feet above Charleston’s Harbour or riding to the very top of the newly spectacular span of the Arthur Ravenel Bridge, or having both his feet firmly planted on the ground in his native historic Charleston, this is one businessman that never has a dull moment in his daily career. Rick became an instant photographer at a young age when his teacher handed him a camera on the playground, to the high school yearbook where the fascination of developing images in the darkroom took hold, to College for a much more serious approach towards a profession. Rick earned degrees from the Southeast Center for Photographic Studies in Daytona Beach, Florida and Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. From there the desire for photography only grew stronger with more experience and more time. Now, fifteen years later, thousands of images, and a lifetime full of more memories than could satisfy any artists’ palette, the shutter keeps clicking away. With a new building and a high end in-house digital lab, Rick Rhodes Photography and Imaging, LLC is able to say the boundaries are limitless. With a full staff of highly trained professionals in their industry you are bound to get more than you bargained for.

Worthwhile opened in December, 1993 in Charleston, SC, bringing a bit of the unknown to what was then a fairly conservative shopping environment. The mix of merchandise  found in a department store translated to a boutique setting  was an idea just catching on at the time…lifestyle… Worthwhile went one step further to include women’s and children’s clothing, creating a truly unique shopping environment. Our vision is to create a shopping experience that is one of sensory and aesthetic delight.

Our product mix is always varied…a new material in candle holders, a young clothing designer’s first season, a book about the bonds between sisters, loaves of soap sold by the slice, a foldable watering can, handbags made from seat belts…….we’re always on the lookout for the new and unusual, while we sometimes embrace the tried and true; We like translucent layers over opaque ones, a hard edge next to a soft fabric.
