Internships at the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art

2015-10-15-14.45.14

Interns assisting with the installation of Jiha Moon: Double Welcome, Most Everyone’s Mad Here, October 2015.

An internship at the Halsey Institute is an invaluable opportunity for students (and recent graduates) at any level to gain experience in a professional gallery setting. Our interns become involved with all aspects of the Halsey Institute, starting with the understanding of our mission, past programming, future programming, membership, and daily responsibilities of running a nonprofit organization. Much of our interns’ time is spent on exhibition research, writing, installation, and promotion. Although internships are tailored to fit the interests and skills of each intern, participants are deemed generally useful, meaning they have the opportunity to assist with anything related to Halsey Institute programming.

Many former interns have since landed jobs working for galleries and museums nationwide, including the High Museum of Art, the International Center of Photography in New York, Pace Gallery New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, among many others.

The Spring internship is the next available position and runs January 9 – May 5, 2017. Interns are required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week (organized around your schedule). Five to six interns are accepted into the program each semester.

The deadline to apply for the Spring internship is 5pm, November 15, 2016.  To apply, please send a resume and cover letter to Bryan Granger, grangerbw@cofc.edu.
